These four are engineered wood, as the supplier describes it. The 50 cm table at £56 comes in both white and black, so a white and gold or a black and gold room can use the same model.

Rattan with gold handles

Two more pieces under £100 pair a woven rattan front with a gold-tone handle: a 45 cm table in a walnut finish on angled wooden legs, at £70 (45 × 40 × 55 cm, MDF), and a pair of wall-mounted drawers in an oak effect, at £56 for the two (40 × 30 × 15 cm each).

All of these are solid mango wood except the faceted table, whose maker names no species, so we do not either. The brass-plated table at £257 has the most gold on show: its whole drawer front is plated, not solid brass.

Choosing one

Measure the gap beside your bed at its narrowest point, skirting board included, and leave about 2 cm. Most of these are 45 cm wide; the two 55 cm tables suit a king or super king bed. For height, match the top of the table to the top of your mattress within about 5 cm. Floor-standing heights here run from 47 to 60 cm. No. Every table here is wood, engineered wood or MDF, with gold-tone or brass details. We do not sell metal or mirrored bedside tables.

What is the cheapest gold bedside table?
£56, for the 50 cm table on gold-tone legs, in white or black, or the 45 cm white table framed in gold-tone legs. The wall-mounted rattan pair is also £56, for two.

Are the handles real brass?
Some makers say brass, others brass-toned, brass-look or gold-tone, and each product page repeats their words. The one drawer front sold as plated is plated, not solid brass.
