Bedside tables UK, every size in cm
We call a bedside table narrow when it is 35 cm wide or less. That matters, because the median bedside table in our height study is 40 cm wide. Anything at or under 35 cm is deliberately made for a tight gap. The narrowest here is 20 cm.

Wall-mounted and floating tables up to 35 cm wide are here too: they leave the floor clear, so a skirting board or a pipe behind the bed does not get in the way. How they fix to the wall.
Not sure? Put your three numbers into the size checker — gap width, depth available, and floor to the top of your mattress — and it will tell you exactly which of our tables fit.
How narrow can you go?
| Width | What still fits on top | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| 20 cm | a phone, a glass, a small lamp base | no room for a book laid flat |
| 25 to 30 cm | a lamp, a book, a glass | a drawer will be shallow |
| 30 to 35 cm | everything most people need | little |
| 40 cm and over | a full lamp and a stack of books | needs a real gap |
Small, slim, slimline, skinny, narrow: the same thing
Shoppers use all of these words, and so do retailers: small, slim, slimline, skinny, thin, mini. On this page they mean one measurement: 35 cm wide or less. If you searched for a slimline, skinny or mini bedside table, or a space-saving one for a tight gap, this is the right page.
Measure the gap, not the bed
Measure wall to bed frame at the narrowest point, and include the skirting board. Then take off 2 cm so the drawer can open and your hand can get behind it. If you are also unsure about height, the height guide covers it.
Narrow bedside tables with drawers
If you would rather keep things out of sight, these narrow bedside cabinets have drawers:
- 20 cm wide, two drawers: the Eden with 2 drawers, 40 cm tall.
- 20 cm wide, a drawer and an open slot: two Eden designs, with the slot above the drawer or below it.
- 30 cm wide, with drawers: the Arun (one drawer, curved, 30 cm deep), the Avon and Rother (two drawers on tall legs), the Nidd (two drawers and a niche) and the round Tees (three drawers).
- 35 cm wide, two drawers: the Tamar, in a light finish, 25 cm deep.
- Wall mounted, 30 cm wide: six Calder, Coln and Severn designs with one or two drawers, fixed at mattress height.
These and the wider ones with drawers are all in bedside cabinets.
Questions
What is the narrowest bedside table available?
Ours measure 20 cm wide and 20 cm deep. Below that, no floor-standing table fits: bedside table alternatives shows what does.
What is a good narrow nightstand for small spaces?
For a gap under 25 cm, a 20 cm table with an open shelf rather than a drawer: a drawer needs clearance in front to open, an open shelf does not.
What are some good thin bedside tables for small spaces?
Look at depth as well as width. A table 30 cm wide but 40 cm deep will still stick out past your bed frame. Everything on this page lists both numbers.
Buying a pair?
Most bedrooms have two sides, and they are rarely the same width. See the set of 2, or the full range.
On a narrow top, the lamp is what decides. What actually fits on a bedside table goes through it width by width, and explains why a wall light gives a 25 cm table its surface back.
If your gap is tighter than 25 cm, there is a narrower range again: the 20 cm tables are 20 wide and 20 deep, which is the practical floor for a floor-standing table in Britain.

For a child's room, the kids bedside tables pick out the narrow tables with rounded edges.
