Bedside tables UK, every size in cm

Bedside Cabinets & Drawers

A bedside cabinet is a bedside table with drawers, so the charger, the glasses and the tissues go out of sight. Some shops call them bedside drawers, others bedside chests: it is the same piece of furniture. The ones here have one to four drawers and run from 20 to 55 cm wide; most stand on the floor, and some fix to the wall.

How many drawers, in which width

The widths available, sorted by the number of drawers and how the cabinet stands. The width is in each product name, and the depth and height are on its page.

Drawers Floor-standing widths Wall-mounted widths
One 20, 30, 40, 45, 46 and 48 cm 30 and 45 cm
Two 20, 30, 35, 45 and 55 cm 30 and 45 cm
Three 30, 45 and 48 cm None
Four 36 cm None

One drawer holds what you reach for at night. Two or three give room for the things that would otherwise sit on top: a notebook, a spare charger, medicines, a book you are not reading yet.

Floor-standing or wall-mounted?

The floor-standing cabinets are 20 to 55 cm wide. The 20 cm ones stand 40 cm tall, which suits a platform bed or a low frame; the 30 to 36 cm ones range from 40 to 62 cm, some on tall legs; the 40 to 55 cm ones stand 45 to 61 cm tall, closer to a divan.

The wall-mounted cabinets are 30 or 45 cm wide and 25 to 32 cm deep. Their height is wherever you fix them, so you can set the top level with your mattress whatever the bed. The floor below stays clear for a radiator, a socket or a vacuum. They need fixings that suit your wall: plasterboard, brick and dot-and-dab each take different ones. See all wall-mounted bedside tables, including those with open shelves only.

Check that the drawer can open

A drawer slides out towards you, so it needs clear floor in front of the cabinet, not space at the sides. Leave at least as much as the cabinet is deep, plus room to stand. A cabinet squeezed between the bed and a wardrobe door is the one that never gets opened.

Narrow bedside cabinets

For a gap of 22 to 31 cm, the three 20 cm cabinets fit: one with two drawers, two with a drawer and an open slot. From 32 cm, the 30 cm cabinets go in, with one to three drawers, and from 37 cm the 35 cm one with two drawers. Every slim table, with or without a drawer, is in narrow bedside tables.

What they are made of

Most are solid mango wood, in finishes such as Chestnut, Light, California Walnut and Honey Caramel: those names describe the colour, and the wood underneath is mango. The fluted Hamble, the painted Fowey and Exe and the 55 cm washed wood Itchen are described by their maker only as wood, and the Colour Block as solid wood without the species; the white and black painted cabinets are engineered wood, as their supplier states. We do not claim more than that.

Questions

What is the difference between a bedside cabinet and a bedside table?

A bedside cabinet is a bedside table with enclosed storage, usually a drawer or a door. Every piece on this page has at least one drawer; for open shelves as well, see all bedside tables.

What size bedside cabinet do I need?

Measure the gap beside your bed at its narrowest point and take off 2 cm: that is the widest cabinet that fits. Then match the height to the top of your mattress, within about 5 cm. The size checker does both from three numbers, and the height guide explains the second.

Can a bedside cabinet be fixed to the wall?

Yes. Several of the cabinets here are wall-mounted: you fix them level with your mattress and nothing touches the floor.

Which bedside cabinet has the most drawers?

The Wye, 36 cm wide and 60 cm tall, with four drawers. Three drawers: the fluted Hamble (45 cm), the painted Fowey (48 cm) and the round Tees (30 cm).

Before you order

Delivery is free everywhere in the UK, three working days to the mainland for most; the Colour Block and the white and black painted cabinets are sent from the supplier's warehouse, and their pages give the longer time, and you have 14 days to change your mind. Most product pages also give the size of the box, which matters on tight stairs. Delivery · Returns
